Similarly to linden flower, linden honey in many households is a basic component of a home first-aid kit, indispensable during a cold due to the content of antioxidants, which destroy pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms. Thanks to the content of linden essential oil, it has a diaphoretic, fever-reducing, expectorant and antiseptic – antibacterial and antifungal effect. Regular consumption of this honey strengthens immunity and reduces the frequency of infections, soothes the nervous system, relieves tension and has a positive effect on concentration. The addition of linden honey in the diet reduces the problem of insomnia and lowers the level of everyday stress.
Apart from numerous healing and strengthening properties, linden honey is very beneficial in cosmetics. Thanks to its antiseptic properties, it accelerates wound healing and helps to cleanse the skin.
Linden honey usually has a light yellow color, but sometimes it has a darker, amber color. It turns yellow-orange after crystallization. The taste is sometimes a little tangy, with a noticeable slight bitterness. It smells of summer and linden flowers.
Real honey undergoes crystallization. This process occurs completely naturally and usually unevenly from a week to even a year. After the crystallization, honey does not lose its properties. It can be restored to its liquid form by heating it very slowly to a maximum temperature of 40 °C.
Every product, including those of natural origin, may cause an allergic reaction. People who are allergic to bee products and those suffering from diabetes should be cautious when using not only honey but also other bee products – consumption of large amounts of honey may lead to sugar level fluctuations.
The product should be stored in a dry and cool place.
